The night descends with a cloak of dread,
As shadows creep and whisper in my ear,
My heart races with fear and dread,
As darkness seems to draw near.
The creaks and groans of the old house,
Echo through the halls with eerie sound,
I try to be quiet, as quiet as a mouse,
As I listen for footsteps on the ground.
The moon shines bright, a sliver of light,
Casting strange shapes upon the wall,
My mind plays tricks, my thoughts take flight,
As I feel something watching me in the hall.
Oh fearful night, how long must I wait,
For the dawn to break and bring me escape?
